The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has written a letter to the Punjab government to declare an official holiday in banks on January 17, 2024, on the occasion of Prakash Gurpurb (birth anniversary) of Sri Guru Gobind Singh.

In this regard, when various bank associations and unions raised the matter with the SGPC, after which, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the Punjab government should look into this important issue.

He said that the Prakash Gurpurb of Sri Guru Gobind Singh is celebrated with devotion and enthusiasm by the devotees and on this occasion, the holiday should be uniform for every employee.

In this matter, SGPC Secretary Partap Singh has written a letter to Punjab Chief Secretary Anurag Verma and said that it has been brought to the attention of the SGPC by various unions that this year the government has not declared a holiday in banks on the Prakash Gurpurb of tenth Sikh Guru, while earlier every year this holiday declared by government was also applicable in banks.

He asked the Chief Secretary to take immediate necessary action in this regard because due to the non-declaration of a holiday, there is a sense of resentment among the officers and employees of banks as well as a violation of the ongoing tradition. He said that it should be considered on priority.
