Ludhiana DC reviews functioning of ‘Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ and ABC

Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sahni in the district ‘Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ (SPCA) and ABC. Reviewed the functioning of the program.

The Deputy Commissioner presided over a meeting in his office and said that under the Animal Birth Control (ABC) project of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation, more than 48,000 stray dogs in the city have been sterilized by the Municipal Corporation during the last three years.

The weak points of the litter needed to be prioritized. He also instructed the officials to speed up the project.

He also directed the officials to plan dedicated places and schedules for feeding the helpless animals in the city as per rules to prevent animal-human conflict. Authorities should hold meetings with housing societies and market associations about common feeding places and timings for residents to feed livestock.

Deputy Commissioner Sahni discussed the proposals of starting a dog adoption drive managed by the society, building an operation theater at the Animal Birth Control Centre, required equipment, allocation of funds for catching cows to manage recurring expenses, and others.

Sakshi Sahni said that the society aims to work for the welfare of all kinds of animals and to provide effective means to prevent cruelty to animals across the district. He further reiterated that anti-rabies vaccinations should be administered to the corporation employees engaged in animal handling and care facilities.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Major Amit Sareen, Joint Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Chetan Bangar, Civil Surgeon Dr Jasveer Singh Aulakh, Assistant Director Animal Husbandry Dr Jagdeep Singh, Pooja Jain and others were present in the meeting.
