Chandigarh, April 24

Seeking to legally protect and safeguard unique ideas and innovative creations of its students and faculty members, Chandigarh Group of Colleges, (CGC) Landran has set up an Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Cell christened ‘Centre for Boudhik Sampada’ in the campus. The IPR cell was inaugurated today by Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President, of CGC Landran.

He was accompanied by Dr. PN Hrisheekesha, Campus Director, CGC Landran, Dr. Ruchi Singla, Director-R&D, CGC Landran, Prof. (Dr.) Dinesh Arora, IPR Head, CGC Landran, all the Deans and Directors of the institution.

Established in collaboration with ACIC RISE Association, CGC Landran, and the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST), the IPR cell has also received a grant of Rs. Rs.50,000/- from PSCST.

Dedicating the newly set up center to the CGC family, Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal appreciated the efforts by the team at CGC for the initiative.

Underscoring the importance of the Center for Boudhik Sampada he said that it would be of immense benefit to CGC’s young innovators and entrepreneurs who can have their creative property and ideas safeguarded under the IPR laws.

It would also encourage them to become more aware of the significance of intellectual property rights and get their ideas patented.

IPRs are a set of exclusive rights protected by law which are accorded to creators over their creations for a certain period of time. It empowers innovators/creators, by keeping their ideas/inventions unique, thereby preventing them from being copied. This provides them competitive advantage and business success.

CGC’s Boudhik Sampada Center would enable students and faculty members to seek advice and guidance about IPR laws and the protection they grant to innovators in addition to knowing more about the patent filing process.

The cell would also organize workshops and awareness sessions to acquaint all the relevant stakeholders with intellectual property laws, copyrights and the advantages of getting their discoveries/creations patented.

It is worth noting that CGC Landran has filed more than 2,300 patents and has also been recognized among the top ten patent-filing academic institutions and universities pan India, by the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs, Trademarks and Geographical Indicators, Government of India for five consecutive years.

Our key effort is to make our faculty and students aware about IPR laws and how can they benefit from filing patents, receiving trademarks and copyrights. We at CGC Landran are committed to fostering a culture of innovation and invention and have been at the forefront of promoting entrepreneurship through our ACIC RISE Association which has facilitated incubation of 63+ start-ups, said Dr. Ruchi Singla, Director-R&D, CGC Landran. In addition to helping innovators with the patent filing process, the cell will also be focusing on commercialization of the patents granted, she added.
