Upgradation of Ludhiana railway station at a cost of Rs 528.95 crore is on schedule: MP Arora

Redevelopment and upgradation of Ludhiana Railway Station under Ferozepur Division through Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract is in full swing.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav approved the Rs 528.95 crore project after Ludhiana MP (Rajya Sabha) Sanjiv Arora raised its demand both inside and outside the Rajya Sabha.

Arora also met Vaishnav personally to emphasize his demand in the wider interest of Ludhiana and its residents.

The railway station of the city was established in the year 1860 during the British rule. And, since then, this railway station which is also a junction has never undergone any major renovation.

Giving more details about the project here today, Arora said that the project has been allotted to a private contractor.

He said that the General Manager of Northern Railway has informed him that the contract value of the project is Rs 472.94 crore. The Letter of Award (LOA) was issued on December 19, 2022 and work began on February 2, 2023.

Arora has been apprised of the status of the project till February 23, 2024. According to the status report, geotechnical investigation and survey work has been completed.

Apart from this, the work of architectural design approval has also been completed 100 percent. 75 percent work of structural design approval and MEP design approval has been completed.

He said that according to the status report, 98 percent of the transfer work has been completed. Regarding the Multi Level Car Parking (MLCP), the status report shows that 80 percent of the second floor slab work has been completed and the remaining steel binding work is in progress.

Regarding the construction of the East Side Main Station building, the status report mentions that the main station foundation work is in progress. 40 percent of the plinth beam has been excavated.

Apart from this, Arora said that the status report further mentioned that the sub-structure piling work of the elevated approach road is in progress and 3 piers have been cast. Regarding the East Side U/G Tank, the status report mentions that the UG tank structure has been completed.

However, the status report regarding the concourse and foot over-bridge (FOB) mentions that detailed design approval is in progress. Regarding the Roof and Covered Over Platform (COP), the status report mentions that a detailed design approval is in progress.

Also, the status report mentions that the construction of Type-II (A & B Block), Type-II (C & D Block), Type-III (E & F Block) and Type-IV multi-storied quarters. in progress The rest house terrace slab work has been completed and the Mamti column steel binding work is in progress. Similarly, the work of hospital building terrace slab has been completed and the work of Mamti column steel binding is in progress.

Meanwhile, Arora lauded the railway authorities for carrying out the construction activities in full swing. He said that he is satisfied with the work done so far. He hoped that everything would be done as per the stipulated time frame.

He hoped that the redeveloped and upgraded Ludhiana railway station would be a major asset for the city and its residents. He said that the terminal of this railway station will not be less than a modern airport.

He said that the people of Ludhiana would never have imagined the facilities and infrastructure to be built at this railway station. The project completion time is the first half of 2025.
