Punjab players bring laurels to state in 67th national school games

Punjab players brought laurels to the state by performing their best in the 67th National School Games.

Disclosing this here today Punjab School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that till now, as many as 142 medals have been won by the players of Punjab in National School Games which  included 46 gold, 33 silver and 63 bronze medals. He said that the games will conclude in February 2024.

Currently Punjab was at fifth position as per medal tally, as its players have won a total of 12 medals in Archery including 4 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze medals and 3 medals in athletics including 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze. The Punjab players also clinched 2 medals in Badminton including 1 gold and 1 bronze and 21 medals boxing including 4 gold, 5 silver and 12 bronze medals. The players secured 6 medals including 2 gold and 4 bronze medals in fencing and clinched a bronze medal each in football and Gymnastics. The players also won 2 medals in handball including 1 silver and 1 bronze. In Judo, the players clinched 14 medals including 7 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals meanwhile, the players won 33 medals in Karate including 12 gold, 9 silver and 12 bronze medals. The Punjab players also clinched 1 bronze medal in Kho-Kho and a silver medal in Kabaddi. The players from the state performed well in Shooting as they clinched 12 medals including 6 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals. They also got 7 medals in swimming including 4 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals and a silver medal in Tennis and a bronze medal in Volleybal. In Weightlifting, they won 7 medals including 3 silver and 4 bronze medals and 10 medals in freestyle Wrestling including 1 silver and 9 bronze medals. Meanwhile, in Greco-Roman Wrestling, the Punjab players clinched 4 medals including 2 gold and 2 bronze medals apart from 2 gold medals in Hockey and a gold medal in Basketball.

Cabinet minister Bains said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann making multiple efforts to promote sports and encourage sportspersons in the state, which was bearing fruitful results.
