The effect of the five deaths due to consumption of poisonous liquor at Sangrur has been seen in Gurdaspur district as well.
The Excise Department with the help of the police has raided the villages situated at the banks of the river Beas, which are notorious for illicit liquor, and recovered a large quantity of ‘Lahan’ and illegal liquor.
‘Lahan’ was buried in the riverside land and a joint team of the Excise department and the police had recovered it by dug out the riverside land.
Excise Inspector Anil Kumar told that by the instructions of Assistant Commissioner (Excise) Gurdaspur Range Sh. Hanuwant Singh and Under the supervision of Excise Officers Hemant Sharma GSP-1 and Amanbir Singh GSP 2, Excise Inspector Bikramjit Singh Bhullar, Excise Inspector Harvinder Singh, Excise Inspector Anil Kumar and Excise Inspector Vijay Kumar along with Excise Police party and Rajbir Singh DSP Ruler and SHO Mrs. Sumanpreet Kaur Thana Bhaini Mian Khan, conducted a joint search operation against illegal along the river bank of Beas near village Mochpur & Budha Bal. About 62000 kg of ‘lahan’ in 70 tarpals and 10 plastic cans filled with 30-30 liters of illegal liquor were recovered from the banks of the river. .
Officials of the Excise Department said that although no arrest could be made on the spot, but the recovered 62 thousand kg of lahan and 300 liters of illegal liquor have been destroyed on the spot and a case has been registered against unknown persons at the Bhaini Mian Khan police station under Excise Act.
He said that lakhs of liters of illegal liquor were to be prepared from the recovered lahan, but the department is constantly trying to thwart the plans of the persons involved in the black trade of illegal liquor.
