Ludhiana, April 30
The wheat procurement season has reached over 80% with the district administration purchasing 652829.8-MT of wheat from the grain markets in Ludhiana.
Disclosing further details, Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney said that 8.13 lakh metric tons of wheat was expected in all the grain markets during the on-going Rabi procurement season. So far, 702375.8 MT of wheat have arrived in the markets, with agencies procuring more than 80% of the grains, or 652829.8 MT of wheat.
Sawhney also mentioned that farmers had received payments worth Rs 1387 crores. The district administration had taken steps to protect crops from inclement weather, and wheat grains were promptly lifted from the markets to prevent oversupply.
Likewise, Sawhney said that the officials had been directed to regularly monitor the procurement operations in the district for convenience of farmers.
