‘Walk for Wildlife Trekking’ organised, event flagged off by Dharampal, UT Administrator

Wildlife week is observed during the first week of October all over the country, with the objective of raising awareness among masses for conservation of Wildlife and its habitat.

The Department of Forests & Wildlife, Chandigarh is organizing various programmes during the week to sensitize and generate awareness among the masses for the Protection and Conservation of Wildlife, Nature and Natural resources.

In this series, a “Walk for Wildlife Trekking” was organized by the department which was flagged off by Dharam Pal, Adviser to the Administrator, UT Chandigarh in the presence of Sh.Debendra Dalai, Chief Conservator of Forests, Sh.Arulrajan P.,DCF(BG&NR) and Dr.Abdul Qayum, Deputy Conservator of Forests(HQ/WL), Chandigarh.

This was started from Nepli and culminated at Kansal Log Hut. The Wildlife Trek was approximately 9 Km in length and passing through three Hillocks reaching a maximum height of 1500 feet.

Approximately 1000 people participated in the Trek which include School Children, general public and large no. of people from Press & Media. The participants were divided into groups of around 100 people. Each group was having one Forest Official and Group Leader.

On this occasion, Chief Guest appreciated the effort of the department for such occasion. Such activities shall sensitize general public towards Wildlife Conservation.

Speaking on the occasion, Sh.Debendra Dalai, IFS, Chief Wildlife Warden, UT Chandigarh stated that so many people came forward to participate in the Walk for the cause of Wildlife Conservation is a very positive outcome. They were all sensitized regarding the importance of wildlife for the sustenance of human being on this earth.
This year Wildlife Week celebration, a ‘Eco-tour’ for different forests has also been planned which will start on 3rd October, 2022 at 10.00 A.M. from Paryavaran Bhawan, Sector-19, Chandigarh. It will be a free tour to Butterfly Park, Peacock Park, Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary, Botanical Garden and Bird Park to sensitize people on coexistence of human and wildlife. The Department of Forests & Wildlife, Chandigarh Administration has planned for various programmes for the weeklong celebration of Wildlife Week such as; Wildlife Crime Handling sessions & Demonstration of booking offences, Exhibition on Chandigarh Butterflies, Eco Circuit buses tour of Forest, Lecture series and Screening of films on ‘Wildlife Conservation’ in different schools, Sensitizing people on ‘Wildlife Rescue’, Launching of Butterfly Park Management Plan and New Web Portal for Wildlife Wing, Field trip to Butterfly Park, Presentation on Human Wildlife Conflict cases, Cycle Rally on ‘Wildlife Conservation’ and Painting/Drawing Competitions etc.
