Vigilance Bureau registers case against naib tehsildar’s reader for demanding Rs 50,000 bribe

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, has registered a corruption case against Rakesh Kumar, Reader to the Naib Tehsildar of Jaito, district Faridkot, for demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000.

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said this case has been registered aforementioned official based on an online complaint lodged by Sukhdev Singh, a resident of village Matta, tehsil Jaito, on the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line portal.

He further informed that the complainant informed in his complaint that he had submitted an application to the Naib Tehsildar of Jaito for mutation of his land, which had been pending for a year. He had met the revenue officer, who asked him to contact his Reader to get dates for a personal visit to his land. The complainant further alleged that upon contacting Rakesh Kumar, he has demanded a bribe of Rs one lakh for visiting his land and then executing the mutation of land in his name. He further informed that after repeated requests, the deal was struck at Rs 50,000, of which Kumar asked for Rs 30,000 for the Tehsildar and Rs 20,000 for himself.

The spokesperson informed that during the investigation of this complaint, it was proven that the Reader has demanded a bribe of Rs 30,000 for the Tehsildar and Rs 20,000 for himself from the complainant for the aforementioned motive. Subsequently, a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the VB police station, Ferozepur range.

The VB has been hunting to arrest the accused who would be arrested soon and the role of the concerned Naib Tehsildar would also be investigated during the further probe.
