Fatehgarh Sahib, March 4
A delegation of Shiromani Akali Dal, led by Youth Akali Dal President Sarabjit Singh Jhinjer and District President Charanjit Singh Chanarthal, today confronted Aam Aadmi Party Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond during his visit to Fatehgarh Sahib, holding his government accountable for its failure to curb the worsening drug menace in Punjab.
Sond, who is also a member of the Sub-Committee monitoring the Anti-Drug Campaign in Punjab, was conducting a meeting at Bachat Bhawan, Fatehgarh Sahib, when the Akali Dal delegation arrived to question him. However, the police blocked them and denied them the opportunity to confront the minister.
Speaking to the media after Sond left, Youth Akali Dal President Sarabjit Singh Jhinjer said, “We wanted to cordially ask Minister Tarunpreet Sond about the AAP government’s failure to curb drugs in Punjab, but he got scared and ran away.”
He further stated, “In the last three years, the Aam Aadmi Party government has staged multiple farcical anti-drug campaigns, but instead of tackling the crisis, the drug trade has skyrocketed. They had initially promised to wipe out drugs within six months of forming the government, yet after three years, no real action has been taken.”
Jhinjer added, “The minister may have fled from answering our questions, but the people of Punjab have seen through AAP’s hollow promises. Wherever they go, they will be held accountable by the people.”
The Youth Akali Dal President also condemned AAP’s so-called ‘bulldozer justice’, stating, “The Supreme Court has clearly ruled that demolishing individuals’ homes like this is illegal. Yet, the AAP government is engaging in such acts in Punjab just to grab media attention. But let me warn the police and civil officials—when these illegal actions are challenged in court, it will be you who will be held accountable. Instead of this drama, focus on arresting the real kingpins of the drug trade, who are operating under the patronage of AAP MLAs and ministers.”
Taking a dig at CM Bhagwant Mann, Jhinjer further said, “The way the CM behaved with the farm unions yesterday proves how arrogance has taken over the AAP government. This very arrogance will be their downfall in Punjab, just as it was in Delhi. I strongly condemn the arrest and detention of farm leaders across Punjab today, just to prevent them from marching toward their planned protest against the Punjab government. AAP had once guaranteed MSP within minutes of forming the government, but like everything else, they have completely backed away from their promises.”
