Amritsar, December 21

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) Harjinder Singh Dhami has rejected the election of office-bearers of Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC), a body being formed with government intervention, saying that the Sikh community does not accept such government committee and will continue to oppose it.

SGPC President said that the separate Haryana Gurdwara committee being made forcibly with the intervention of anti-Sikh ideological powers and governments is not in the interest of Sikhs.

He said it is a conspiracy to break Panthic institutions, and the apprehension expressed by the Sikh community has been confirmed by the government’s election of HSGMC office bearers today.

He said that as per the information, this election has been conducted by the Haryana government at the Kurukshetra deputy commissioner’s office instead of the Guru’s house, which proves that the Haryana committee has no connection with Panthic concerns rather it is being established under the direct intervention of the government.

Harjinder Singh Dhami said that as per the Panthic traditions, the community’s affairs are not held in the government offices but in the presence of Guru Granth Sahib.

“We had said earlier that the Haryana Gurdwara committee is being established at the behest of Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) which has been confirmed today. Along with the Centre government, the BJP government of Haryana wants to take the Sikh issues directly into their own hands and run them according to their wishes, but the history of the Sikh community is that they have never tolerated government interference”, said Harjinder Singh Dhami.

SGPC President appealed to the Sikh leaders of Haryana to understand mischievous tactics of interference in Sikh affairs of RSS and its political wing Bharatiya Janata Party-led governments.

He said Haryana Sikh leaders should show the same unity for the safety of Sikh institutions which are established with great sacrifices as Jagdish Singh Jhinda has done.

He said the Sikh leaders of Haryana should still come under the leadership of Akal Takht Sahib and advance this issue with discussion and dialogue. He said that he the SGPC and he himself greatly respects the Sikhs of Haryana which will always remain so.
