District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman District Legal Services Authority Tarsem Mangla held a special inspection of New District Jail, Nabha. He met jail inmates, listened to their grievances, and directed the jail superintendent Ramandeep Singh Bhangu and other staff members to ensure timely redressal of their problems. They were also directed to pay special attention to health and medical facilities being provided to the inmates. CJM cum Secretary, District Legal Services Authority Sushma Devi also present there.
Tarsem Mangla said jail authorities should provide proper medical facilities to inmates and ensure that the kitchen and meals of inmates should be checked for quality. He said inspection of jails was conducted regularly so that inmates could be made aware about their rights and free legal aid could be provided to them.
Apart from this, a legal awareness programme was held by Sushma Devi, CJM/Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Patiala with the jail inmates. During this programme, they were apprised about rights available to jail inmates and they were made aware about the concept of plea bargaining.
