Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring while informing that the Panchayat election would now be held as per schedule, congratulated the Panches, Sarpanches and the gram panchayats on the restoration of their tenure after Punjab government’s unlawful decision of dissolving all the Panchayats in the state before completion of their term/tenure, was revoked.
Hitting out at the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government for the dictatorial decision, Warring said that the autocratic decision had exposed the double standards of the AAP leadership and the verdict was a tight slap on the face of the leadership hell bent on snatching away the rights of the elected representatives of the people.
Expressing his satisfaction over the decision in favour of the Panchayats, Warring said that Congress had always stood by the people of the state and had always raised its voice to protect their legitimate rights. We raised the issue, held dharnas to press the Punjab Government to revoke the unconstitutional decision to dissolve the panchayats. “I am glad that today, the Punjab government informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court that it had decided to withdraw the decision to dissolve Panchayats in the state,” said he, adding that this was akin to a gift for all the elected representatives on the auspicious day of Rakhad Punnya.
