Rahul Gandhi gets bail from Bengaluru court in a defamation case

Fact News Service

New Delhi, June 7

A special court here granted bail to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday in relation to a lawsuit by the Karnataka chapter of the BJP for publishing “defamatory” ads in mainstream newspapers.

As per reports, the advertisement released just before the Assembly polls last year accused the then BJP government in the state of indulging in massive corruption during its rule.

Judge K N Shivakumar directed Rahul Gandhi to appear before the court on June 7 without fail.

In February, Rajhul Gandhi attended court proceedings in connection with the defamation case and was granted bail.

The complaint against Gandhi was registered by BJP’s Vijay Mishra.

Last December, a warrant was issued against the Congress leader that prompted him to suspend his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Amethi and make an immediate appearance in court on February 20.

The complaint surfaced as a result of remarks made by Gandhi during a press conference in Bengaluru in May 2018 at the time Karnataka polls were taking place.
