Punjab Police constable was shot dead and three gangsters were injured in a exchange of fire between gagsters and police party near Bara pind village falling under police station Goraya on Sunday night.
This was disclosed here today by Jalandhar range IG G.S.Sandhu in a hurriedly convened press conference.
Police identified the deceased constable as Kuldeep Singh (26) posted at police station phagwara .
Narrating the details of the incident , IG disclosed that four armed gangsters looted a Creta car at gun point from a resident of Phagwara at 8:45 pm on Sunday night and the complainant informed the police which immediately swung into action and chased the car and spotted it and stopped the car near bara pind.the police party headed by SHO Amandeep Nahar asked the four gangsters to surrender but they fired at police party and police also retaliated the fire and in the exchange of fire police constable Kuldeep Singh sustained bullet injuries but police party over powered three gangsters who also received bullet injuries .
Police constable Kuldeep Singh died on the way to the hospital .
Police has recovered three pistols and 15 cartidges and also recovered one stolen car Alantra bearing fake registration number of NawanShahar .
IG said that stolen car bearing original registration number of Delhi DL10 CD 9711 as gangsters came to phagwara on this car and committed the crime.
IG disclosed that three gangsters identified as Ranjit Singh of Shahkot falling under Jalandhar,Vishal Soni resident of Mundela Khan falling under police station Khanna and Kulwinder Singh of haripur falling under police station Hoshiarpur.The fourth accused identified as Yuvraj Singh of village Bilga falling under police station Bilga fled way under the cover of darkness due to dense fog and police parties have been despatched to arrest him.
Sandhu said all the gangsters were involved more than ten criminal cases including one murder case at Jalandhar in 2008 , attempt to murder and looting incidents in the state.He said further investigation was on to ascertain their criminal back ground.All the gangsters are in the age group of early forties said the police.
The deceased constable was the only son of his parents and got the police service on the compassionate ground after the death of his father serving in police department.
The deceased was very active in social media for his extracurricular activities and had a fan following of more one lakh seventy thousand on instagram account.
