Punjab budget development-oriented, development of cities will get a new direction: Dr. Inderbir Nijjar

Minister for Local Government Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar today declared the budget presented by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema for the year 2023-24 of the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann as development-oriented, saying that this budget will provide a new direction to the development of cities.

Praising the Punjab Budget-2023, Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar said that in view of increasing urbanization, the development of cities has been given top priority in the budget of the state government. He said that a provision of Rs 6,596 crore has been kept in the budget for local government and urban development. He said that Rs 1149 crore for Amrut, Rs 425 crore for Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), Rs 460 crore for surface water supply (Ludhiana and Amritsar), Rs 412 crore for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), Rs 250 Crore for Punjab Municipal Development Fund and Rs.5 crores have been earmarked for strengthening the existing BRTS Amritsar.

Dr. Nijjar further said that compared to the previous governments, this budget will change the face of Punjab and Punjab will again become “Rangala Punjab”. He said that in this budget presented by the Finance Minister, special arrangements have been made for the progress of various sectors including health, education, industry, electricity and agriculture. He said that this budget will also be a useful resource for the renovation and upgradation of the state’s infrastructure.
