Punjab and Haryana HC Collegium recommends names of 9 advocates for judgeship

The Collegium of the Punjab and Haryana High Court (HC) comprising Chief Justice and two other senior judges has recommended the names of nine advocates for elevation as judges of the high court.

 

As per available information, the names of the advocates in the recommendation list of the HC Collegium includes Advocates Minderjeet Yadav, Sumeet Goel, H S Grewal, Rohit Kapoor, Kirti Singh, Sudipti Sharma, Rajesh Gaur, Pravindra Chauhan and D S Nalwa. The names have been forwarded to the governors of the two state.

As per the procedure of the elevation, once cleared by the states and the governors after recommendation by the Collegium, the file containing the names with IB reports is placed before the Supreme Court Collegium when it meets. The names cleared for elevation are then sent to the Union Law Ministry before the warrants of appointment are signed by the President, and the complete exercise might take months to complete.

 

The HC currently is functioning with 66 judges against the sanctioned strength of 85. As per the National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG), the pendency of cases at the High Court is 4,39,221, which include 1,65,294 criminal matters and 2,73,927 civil cases.
