Punjab Additional CEO reviews Lok Sabha poll preparedness at Kapurthala

Punjab Additional Chief Electoral Officer Harish Nayar today reviewed the poll preparedness and election related activities by holding a meeting with officials here at District Administrative Complex.

The Additional CEO Harish Nayar emphasis the need to put in place all the required arrangements so as the voters could cast their vote in a seamless manner. He said that ongoing awareness activities should be intensified at grassroots level so as to encourage voters for voting thus the ECI’s goal ‘Is Vaar 70 Paar’ (this time voting percentage should be above 70 percent).

While holding a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal, SSP Vatsala Gupta and other senior official, the Additional CEO instructed them to make sure adequate arrangements for convenience of voters at the polling booths in view of weather conditions in the month of June. He said tents, where needed, and other facilities for voters’ convenience should be made well within the time.

Nayyar also directed that maximum people should be involved in activities for disseminating awareness among the voters especially the youngsters to make use of their right to franchise.

Expressing satisfaction over ongoing preparations, Nayyar pointed out to focus on the areas, which recorded lesser percentage of voting in the past years, so that the slogan given by election commission of India to achieve target of above 70% of voting can be achieved.

‘’The areas with low voter turnout in the past must be identified besides launching extensive awareness campaigns in these localities. Moreover, the participation of youngsters students and persons with disabilities must be ensured to further carry impressive Sveep activities,” he added.

Meanwhile, deputy commissioner-cum-district election officer Amit Kumar Panchal apprised the Additional CEO that of total four assembly segments, Kapurthala and Sultanpur Lodhi falls in Khadoor Sahib parliamentary constituency and counting of votes would take place at local Virsa Vihar. Likewise, Bholath and Phagwara assembly constituencies are part of Hoshiapur Lok Sabha constituency and counting of votes would be done at Hoshiarpur only.

Reiterated administration’s commitment to publicise Sveep activities, Panchal said besides setting up youth polling booth, the special booths have been setup for convenience of people with disabilities. In addition, the setting up green booth is also under consideration.

SSP Vatsala Gupta briefed him about the security arrangements made so far to maintain law and order so as ensure free and fair elections. She added that the special check posts had been setup across the district to keep vigil on anti-social elements besides 63000 kg lahan had been seized so far.

Meanwhile the Additional CEO along with officials took a round of local Virsa Vihar, where counting centers would be setup for Kapurthala and Sultanpur Lodhi constituencies. Earlier, in view of Lok Sabha Polls Nayyar, Panchal and Vatsala Gupta planted sapling .
