Ferozepur, May 26

A prisoner named Amandeep son of Roshan from Central Jail Ferozepur, on Friday, after a suspected overdose, has been referred first to Civil Hospitals and then to Faridkot Medical College, as his health deteriorates.

According to the civil hospital doctor, this prisoner has consumed an overdose of cathartic. He said that after giving the first medical aid to this patient and seeing the serious condition of the prisoner, he has been referred to Faridkot Medical College.

Jasvir Singh, police official on duty, said that prisoner has taken drugs inside the jail and a Civil Hospital doctor has referred him to Faridkot in view of serious condition.

Now the question arises as to how the drug reaches inside the prison. There had been a number of instances in the past of recovery of mobiles and drugs from the jail through various operandis like by hiding in the goods while entering the jail premises, by taking from the relatives during the routine meetings, by throwing from over the walls from outside in packets. Despite strict vigil at the entry points and outside the jail premises, the drugs continue to smuggle inside the jail. Recently, a pharmacist was also arrested for arranging the drugs for the jail inmate.

Still, there is a need for more strictness on the way of life in the prison besides arranging seminars on the bad effects of drugs from time to time in the prison for the inmates. But keeping a strict vigil at the entry points and outside the jail premises is more important to put a check over the entry of banned items inside the jail.
