Patiala, April 26: Shiromani Akali Dal candidate from Patiala Parliamentary Constituency NK Sharma today lambasted BJP candidate Preneet Kaur and AAP Candidate Dr. Balbir Singh and said that they were trying to illegally usurp land of farmers for northern bypass even without paying compensation to farmers whose land is being acquired as tenders for the construction of expressway have already been floated.
In a statement released here today, NK Sharma said that though three years have already been passed since the land has been transferred in the name of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) but farmers have not got even a single penny for their land. He said that BJP candidate Preneet Kaur had met Union Minister Nitin Gadkari after which tendor of Rs. 764 was floated for construction of road. He said that though tender has opened for road construction which means now land will be acquired physically but farmer were yet to get their compensation. He said that this was first example in the country when land will be acquire without paying compensation.
He said that though Preneet Kaur claims that she met Gadkari a number of times but result of these meetings was zero. He said that earlier Preneet Kaur had claimed that full compensation will be paid by Centre after converting scheme of construction of Expressway but that too didn’t materialized.. He asked how much it matter for Union government to pay Rs. 250 crores for compensation? He said that now Union Government was making Bhagwant Mann government responsible for not paying its share of land acquisition after claiming that Centre will bear all the cost.
He said that Preneet Kaur had gathered his supporters on same land of Jassowal who land is being acquired. He said that he had only demanded that farmers should be paid Rs. 2.88 crore per acre as per rules of the state and did nothing political in it. He said that as he was himself being a farmer, it was his duty to stand with the farmers. He said that this area falls under Assembly constituency of Dr. Balbir Singh who is Cabinet Minister but failed to get justice for farmers.
He said that If Preneet Kaur and Dr. Balbir Singh are well-wishers of farmers then they should ensure that farmers get Rs. 2.88 crore per acre for their land from Union or state government.
He said that it was also a reality that neither Preneet Kaur raised the issue in Parliament nor did Dr. Balbir Singh tried to get it resolved through their government.
