Police arrest 3 drug addicts involved in shooting incident at Phagwara; 1 pistol, cartridges, magazines recovered

Police today arrested three drug addicts involved in a firing incident at a shopkeeper with a motive to loot the money exchanger on the night of Jan.26 and seriously wounded him.

Addressing a press conference here today Senior Superintendent of Police Navneet Singh Bains identified the arrested accused drug addicts as Raj Kumar resident of village Begampura ,Gagandeep Singh of village Sangatpura both falling in Phagwara and Ranjit Singh of village Sarhal falling in Phillaur.

He said all the accused along with their one accomplice identified as Seepa conspired to loot the western union money exchanger run by a shopkeeper on the night of Jan 26 and fired at him from a pistol when the shopkeeper resisted their attempt to loot the money and fled away .
Police arrested the accused with the help of CCTV and human intelligence.

During preliminary interrogation, shooter Ravi confessed that he had bought the pistol for rupees forty thousand from Haryana for looting incident.The accused also confessed that they were involved in the several looting incidents in Punjab .

Police said accused Ravi remained in the drug de- addiction centre for treatment and on Jan 24 he bought the pistol and committed the crime .
Police said all the accused are friends and are in their early twenties and plus two drop outs.
Police has registered an attempt to murder case against the accused and police parties have been despatched to arrest their fourth accomplice.
