Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Phagwara Dr. Nayan Jassal today exhorted the Safai Sewaks (Sanitary Workers) to take benefits from the various schemes started by the National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation (NSKFDC).
Interacting with the Safai Sewaks during a training organised here by the NSKFDC, the MC Commissioner said that safai sewaks and their dependents are eligible for availing loans schemes under the NSKFDC.
She said that this is the need of hour to ensure that the need of the safai sewaks is fulfilled without allowing them to fall prey to sharks who want to exploit them economically.
She said that these loans are easily available at cheaper rate of interest and are primarily aimed at ensuring that the rights of the state safai sewaks are safeguarded by all means.
She said that these loan schemes are implemented through State Channelising Agencies, Regional Rural Banks, Nationalised banks viz. Indian Overseas Bank and Skill Development Training Programme.
Underscoring need for popularising these schemes, she asked the officials to hold awareness camps for the Safai Sewaks so that they can avail the benefits of these welfare schemes. She said that the need of the hour is to protect the interests of the people belonging to this weakest section of society.
She further said that no stone will be left unturned to ensure the well-being of the Safai Sewaks in the civic body.
She said that Safai Sewaks are the backbone to make Phagwara clean and green due to which the Municipal Corporation is paying special focus on their well-being.
She said that the benefits of the welfare schemes do not reach to them due to lack of awareness and other reasons hence it is the duty of officials to make them aware about the steps being taken by the governments for them by holding awareness camps at their doorsteps so that they can enroll themselves for the benefits.
