The Bharatiya Janata Party today asked Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann not to make appointment of the PAU Vice-Chancellor as a point of prestige and accept its illegality.
“Chief Minister Mann is trying to defend the indefensible”, the State BJP general secretary Dr Subhash Sharma said, while reacting to the letter written by the Chief Minister to the Governor after the latter asked him to remove the VC since his appointment was illegal and against the UGC norms.
The BJP leader said, the Board of Management of the PAU was no doubt authorized to appoint the VC, but there was another condition that in case it could not reach a decision within two months, the matter should be referred to the Chancellor, who is the Governor.
“It was not just two months, but more than a year that the BOM was not able to finalise the name of the VC hence it had to be referred to the Chancellor, which the AAP government did not”, he pointed out, while wondering why the Chief Minister was trying to make it an ego issue.
The BJP general secretary said, it was not for the first time that the Aam Aadmi Party government was caught on the wrong foot. “You do not do your homework properly and have been blindly following Arvind Kejriwal and Raghav Chadha instead of examining the rules and regulations”, he told the Chief Minister while pointing out, even the courts have passed adverse observations against the functioning of the government as it has not been following rules and regulations properly.
“Instead of setting your own house in order, you have been wrongly trying to put the blame on the Governor, who is the constitutional head of the state and responsible for enforcing rule of law in the state”, Dr Sharma said, while adding, by trying to undermine the constitutional authority of the Governor, the AAP was actually insulting Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, he architect of the constitution.
