Naming Shadman Chowk after Bhagat Singh, Lahore High Court relists case for June 7

The Lahore High Court on Friday allowed relisting the case for naming Shadman Chowk after Bhagat Singh on 7th June 2024.

Imtiaz Rashid Qureshi, Advocate and Chairman, Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation, Lahore is fighting in the court of law for naming Shadman Chowk after Bhagat Singh and proving the innocence of Bhagat Singh and his associates, as their names did not appear in the FIR based on which, the three revolutionaries were hanged to death

Giving this information, Rashid said, the Lahore High Court in his Order Sheet,  in the case Imtiaz Rashid Qureshi versus Sahid Akhtar Zaman, Chief Secretary, Government of Punjab, Rafia Haider, Deputy Commissioner Lahore and Administrator City District government, etc today allowed to relist the case  – Crl. Org No.14024 of 2024 – for 7th June  2024 while hearing of contempt of court petition field.

In the contempt of court case, a stand was taken that the writ petition was approved by Justice Shahid Jameel Khan on 5th September 2018 had instructed the City District Government to name Shadman Chowk after Bhagat Singh, but despite the passage of 6 years, the City District Government has not yet named Shadman Chowk after Bhagat Singh, said Rashid, Chairman, Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation.

Rashid informed that during the hearing, Imran Khan Assistant Advocate General Punjab told the court that the notification of Bhagat Singh Chowk will be issued soon and some time should be given for it, on which the petitioner’s counsel Khalid Zaman Khan Advocate said that there is already a lot of delay in this.
