Mohali DC visits Banur Mandi to review progress of wheat procurement

Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain visited Banur Mandi today to review the progress of wheat procurement. During this, she obtained information about the procurement process by interacting with officials, farmers and labor.

The Deputy Commissioner expressed satisfaction over the ongoing procurement process in the mandis, but at the same time, she directed the officials to pay special attention to wheat lifting.

It may be mentioned that till last evening 31233 metric tons of wheat arrived in the mandis and 30543 metric tons of wheat has been purchased. Out of this, government procurement agencies have procured 28523 metric tons while private agencies have purchased 2019 metric tons of wheat.

According to the official spokesperson, 98 percent of the wheat has been purchased till last evening.

Earlier, during a meeting, Aashika Jain issued instructions to the officials to speed up the lifting of wheat from the mandis. She asked the officials to monitor the lifting process of wheat on a daily basis so that sufficient place can be created in mandis for the arrival of more wheat.

Apart from the procurement and lifting of wheat, the Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the operations related to the maintenance of mandis, sanitation arrangements, drinking water, toilets and transportation of wheat from the procurement center to the storage point.

Aashika Jain instructed the officials involved in the procurement arrangements to be fully vigilant in the mandis and to resolve any problem arising immediately.

She said that the farmers and laborers in the mandis should not face any problems. She also directed the officials to ensure timely crop payments.It may be noted that wheat has been sown in 46000 hectares of area in the district this year and 1,96,000 MT of wheat is expected.

Meanwhile, 1,39,053 MT of wheat is likely to arrive at mandis of the district. She said that the Punjab government is committed to purchasing every single grain of the farmers.

ADC (UD) Damanjit Singh, SDM Mohali Sarabjit Kaur, DFSC Major Gurpreet Singh and other officers were present in the meeting.
