Mohali DC reviews arrangements for wheat procurement

Reviewing the progress of wheat procurement in the district, Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain issued instructions to the officials to speed up the lifting process of wheat from the mandis.

While presiding over a meeting at the administrative complex today, Aashika Jain asked the officials to keep daily monitoring of the lifting operation in view of the possibility of acceleration in arrival of wheat in the coming days.

She said that the farmers should not face any difficulty in the mandis and the entire work should be done without any hindrance.

Meanwhile, the officials told the Deputy Commissioner that till last evening 2454 MT of wheat has arrived in the mandis and 128 MT of wheat has been purchased.

Out of this, private agencies have purchased 72 MT of wheat while government agencies have purchased 56 MT of wheat. The Deputy Commissioner expressed happiness over the interest shown in procurement by private agencies.

Apart from the procurement and lifting of wheat, the Deputy Commissioner also reviewed arrangements regarding the maintenance, cleaning, drinking water and toilets in mandis, besides installation of vehicle tracking system in all transport vehicles used for transportation of wheat from purchase centers to the storage point.

She asked the officials to remove every shortcoming in the procurement process.

Aashika Jain instructed the officials involved in the procurement to be fully vigilant in the mandis so that the farmers do not face any difficulty. She also directed the officials to ensure timely crop payments.

At the same time, she has appealed to the farmers to bring dried wheat to the markets so that there is no problem during the procurement process in the markets.

It may be noted that wheat has been sown in 46000 hectares of area in the district this year and 1,96,000 MT of wheat is expected.

Meanwhile, 1,39,053 MT of wheat is likely to arrive at mandis of the district. She said that the Punjab government is committed to purchase every single grain of the farmers. Because of this, there should not be any deficiency in any kind of arrangement in all the mandis.

ADC (UD) Damanjit Singh Mann, SDM Mohali Sarabjit Kaur, SDM Derabassi Himanshu Gupta, SDM Kharar Ravinder Singh, DFSC Major Gurpreet Singh and representatives of Food & Civil Supplies department, and Mandi Board were present in the meeting.
