Being the fourth pillar of democracy it is of utmost importance that media is cognizant of the functioning and preparedness of the Defence Forces. To the same effect, Media teams from prominent news outlets visited Kharga Sappers at Zirakpur Military Station on a familiarization cum interaction visit . The team comprised of 16 members from 13 prominent media outlets.
The team was familiarized on the role and organization of Indian Army, Corps of Engineers and Kharga Sappers. The team was also briefed on the role of the Indian Army in providing Aid to Civil Authority and HADR operations. Kharga Corps carried out extensive Flood Relief operations during the recent flooding in Punjab and Haryana wherein thousands of distressed and displaced people were shifted to safety and relief materials were distributed.
The team was also familiarized with the layout of the Zirakpur Military Station, Home of the Kharga Sappers. The team interacted with the officers and men of the Kharga Sappers and witnessed the functioning and training of an army formation for operational preparedness. The team also visited the Welfare Centre ‘Aikyam’, where various welfare measures for the families such as Dental Care, Psychological Counselling and Skill Development Courses area conducted. Witnessing the activities, functioning and training of Kharga Sappers, the team is assured of the success of own operations during any scenario in the future. Owing to the visit, our mutual trust and coordination has been enhanced.
