BJP Candidate from Sri Anandpur Sahib, Dr. Subhash Sharma today castigated Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on the issue of the prolonged power cuts being imposed in various parts of the state. While canvassing he quoted a specific example of his own Sri Anandpur Sahib Constituency, Dr. Sharma said that because of the power cuts,  residents of several societies and areas of Mohali & Kharar are suffering a lot. “Presently, the situation is so bad that apart from the daytime, people are facing prolonged power cuts during night hours as well. He said, while pointing out that area residents had told him that there is a huge shortage of staff in the electricity department because of which the PSPCL is even unable to solve the power disruption occurring on account of technical faults.

Lashing out at the AAP government, Dr. Sharma said, “It is shameful that before the Punjab assembly elections, Mann had promised to provide an uninterrupted power supply to all sections of the consumers. He referred to CM’s statement during the purchase of the Goindwal Sahib Power Plant, wherein he had claimed that this would augment the power generation in the state, Dr. Sharma questioned the CM, “Now, can Mann explain why the state is still witnessing power cuts?” Dr. Sharma also said that while taking credit for the resumption of coal supply from Pachwara mines, Mann had claimed that this would boost the power supply in the state but on the contrary, all parts of the state are witnessing power cuts.

BJP candidate from Sri Anandpur Sahib, Dr. Subhash Sharma said that 10 percent of the Punjab budget goes towards power subsidies. “Out of total outlay of Rs 2.04 lakh crore for the fiscal year 2024-25, a whopping Rs 20,477 crore will go towards power subsidies in the form of free electricity to farmers and domestic users, and subsidies for industrialists”, he pointed out, while stating that on the other hand under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, the Union government has already launched a visionary scheme that will provide free electricity up to 300 units in the initial phase through rooftop solar system, which would not put unnecessary financial burden on the government exchequer. Elaborating on the scheme, Dr. Sharma said that Modi had launched PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, with a total outlay of Rs. 75,021 crores for installing rooftop solar and providing free electricity up to 300 units every month for One Crore households on 13th February 2024.

Meanwhile, Dr. Sharma addressed election meetings in various areas of Garhshankar, including Haibowal, Beenawal, Mehindwani, Pandori, Padrana, Rampur, Kitna, Possi, Meghowal, Gondpur, Mahilpur (Jamanwala Chowk), Panam, Samundra and Ward Number 4 of Garhshankar city.
