Ludhiana Smart City Limited Director Ar Sanjay Goel participates as panellist in workshop organised by CSCL

Ludhiana Smart City Limited (LSCL) Director-cum- IIA Punjab Chapter chairman Ar Sanjay Goel participated as a panellist in a workshop organised by Chandigarh Smart City Ltd (CSCL) in Chandigarh today.

On his return here he said the workshop was held because Government of India is inviting suggestions under its initiative “Viksit Bharat – Reaching the Last Mile” with a session of brainstorming with stakeholders, experts and administrators on urban infra, urban transport, roads and logistics.

Addressing the workshop, Ar Sanjay Goel spoke on the topic “How can a building have zero carbon emission?”  He said a zero-carbon city is a goal of city planners that can be variously defined. In a narrower sense of energy production and use, a zero-carbon city is one that generates as much or more carbon-free sustainable energy as it uses.

Citing an example of a building, he said this building is a multiple use office and convention centre located in the Godrej campus at Vikhroli. It has become the first building in India to achieve a Net Zero Energy Rating from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).

He spoke about advantages of low carbon construction and disadvantages of high carbon construction. He added low carbon economy is beneficial to- ecosystem, trade, employment, health and industry and many more. On the other hand, carbon footprint has a negative impact on the environment in multiple ways such as it becomes main cause of human-induced climate change, contributes to urban air pollution and leads to toxic acid rain.

Ar Sanjay Goel said he being Graduated from Chandigarh College of Architecture 29 years ago in 1993, therefore he is having a lot of knowledge about Chandigarh including about the deficiencies prevailing in this city. He said he has been visiting Chandigarh for the last 35 years regularly, thus he feels proud by participating in the today’s meaningful meeting.

Other panellists included Dr Sanjay Kumar, Prof Civil Engineering, National Institute of Technical Teachers Training & Research, Chandigarh; Prashant Alatgi Consultant to National Highways Authority of India, and Ar Deepika Gandhi Associate Professor Chandigarh College of Architecture.

Chief Executive Officer CSCL Anantita Mitra, Secretary Local Government Nitin Kumar and Adviser to Administrator Chandigarh  Dharam Pal were among those present on the occasion.
