Commissioner of Police (CP) Mandeep Singh Sidhu on Thursday solicited the wholehearted support of people for maintaining hard-earned peace, brotherhood, and communal harmony in Ludhiana.
In an appeal to the Ludhiana residents, Sidhu said that all of us should make concerted efforts to uphold peace and communal harmony at every cost. Seeking fulsome support from members of all communities for strengthening the social fabric, he said that we are the citizens of Punjab and there must not be any differences among the people.
Sidhu also added that people must refrain from getting swayed away by the rumours or the false propaganda on social media by persons with vested interests and said that strict action would be taken against those spreading false rumours or indulging in hate speech. He said that everyone must play a constructive role to further firm the spirit of mutual trust and love in society. Sidhu said that the Ludhiana commissionerate police had been keeping a strict vigil on activities of such vested interests on social media as well to prevent any sort of untoward incident. The police administration is well aware of its bounden duty to maintain peace and harmony in the district.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police said that Ludhiana Police had registered cases against two persons for indulging in hate speeches aimed at disrupting the hard-earned peace of the state. He said a case had been registered against Amritpal Singh Mehron of Moga under sections 188, 506 of IPC and 25-54 and 59 of the Arms Act for making threatening remarks and glorifying violence in an interview. Mehron was speaking in reference to the tweet of a political leader.
Similarly, another FIR was registered against Jatinder Gorian under sections 294, 295-A, and 506 of IPC for derogatory words against a particular community in the viral video.
