Ludhiana: Centra Super Giants lifts Trophy

The Centra Super Giants (CSG) were crowned champions of the Centra Premier League (CPL) Season-5 after defeating the Centra Lions (CL) by 5 wickets on Sunday at the Centra Greens playground in Pakhowal Road, Ludhiana.

 

 

Six teams comprising residents of the Centra Greens Apartments took part in this annual cricket festival during which matches were played under floodlights.

 

Punjabi superstar Binnu Dhillon was the chief guest who electrified the event with his dignified presence.

 

In the final, Simranjot Singh Sethi led from the front and finished the match by hitting two sixes which powered Centra Super Giants to their CPL Season-5 title. The man of the match was Kartik for taking 3 wickets.

 

Chasing 49 to win the final, CSG lost two quick wickets including Tejinder Gandhi. Ankit and Chintan were brilliant in their opening spells. Chintan added pressure by bowling a magnificent wicket maiden over.

 

Shantanu Kalia whacked the first six of the innings in the fourth over but CL kept things tight with the ball and created pressure. At one stage Super Giants were 9/2 at the halfway stage and required 40 off the final four overs.

 

 

Shantanu switched gears and added three sixes against Gagandeep and after that, it was too easy for the debutant team.

 

Earlier, Centra Lions, who opted to bat first, started cautiously with the bat and their openers Pankaj Sharma and Chintan put 31 runs in 3 overs without loss. But CSG made a good comeback in the fourth over and 3 batsman got out including in form batsman Pankaj. The batting team could not recover since then and made 48 runs only.

 

Previously in the league matches, Centra Lions (Management Team) remained at top of the table under the captaincy of Gulam Sarwar. Besides, Ankur Kehar (Maple Riders) who made 163 runs and hit 26 sixes was adjuged the best batsman, Kartik (Centra Super Giants) who took 11 wickets was named best bowler and title of the best fielder was given to Nitin Kundra (Mulberry Challengers).

 

Man of the series was awarded to Gautam Batra (Mulberry Challengers). Pankaj sharma from Centra Lions bagged special prize for making 34 runs in 1 over.

 

The winners received a glittering trophy in addition to cash prize of Rs. 51000/- whereas the loosing finalists pocketed cash prize of Rs. 40000/- with other lots of gifts and medals to both the teams.

 

Centra Premiere League has become very popular in Ludhiana in just few years. Centra Greens residents enjoyed this cricket fest and level of the tournament is also increasing every year. In this year musical chair & tug of war for ladies and soccer match for kids were also included.
