Kapurthala Police today busted an international gang of extortionists and arrested 8 of its members for demanding ransom of rs 3 crore from a NRI for the release of his abducted father. The gang has its links in USA and ransom money was also demanded in USA.

Addressing a press conference here today SSP Navneet Singh Bains said that teams under supervision of SP (investigation) Harvinder Singh , DSP Barjinder Singh DSP, Sukhninder Singh DSP Bhulath, Jarnail Singh incharge CIA staff Conducted the investigation.

He said that the main accused Gurikbal Singh alias Var along with his accomplices had kidnapped an elderly man Lakhwinder Singh of village Gazi Gudana under PS Dhilwan on January 3 and demanded a ransom of Rs. 3 crores from his son living in USA but due to police pressure Lakhwinder Singh was released on January 6.

SSP said that during the investigation it was found that Pawanvir Singh resident of Gazi Gudana, who is the nephew of Gurikbal Singh, did the reece to kidnap Lakhwinder Singh.

He said that Pawanveer Singh was arrested on January 11 on the inputs of an informer by the police teams.

On the basis of his interrogation and investigation, a total of 8 accused have been arrested in this case. Among them, Guriqbal Singh resident of Ghazi Gadana, Harmanjit Singh resident of Bamuwal, Gurmukh Singh alias Gora resident of Lakhan Ke Pade, besides one juvenile of Ghaji Gudana, Vijay Kumar resident of Fattuchak, Amrik Singh resident of Khaira Dona, Karamjit Singh resident of Khaira Dona and Germanjit Singh alias Chaudhary resident of Nurpur Lubana. Falling in Kapurthala district .

Bains also said that 7 more accused have been identified in this case who are yet to be arrested.

He said that a Tata Safari vehicle number PB 46 L 0097, which was used to abduct Lakhwinder Singh, has also been recovered from the gang.

Apart from this, 2 motorcycles, one revolver 32 bore, 6 live cartridges, 1 country pistol, 4 live cartridges, 1 gun 12 bore, 10 live cartridges, 950 grams of heroin, 3 mobiles and 1 dongle have been seized.

He said that 9 cases had already been registered against the arrested Gurikbal Singh in different police stations and 13 cases have been registered against Vijay Kumar.

He said that during interrogation Gurikbal Singh told that he sent the WhatsApp number of Lakhwinder Singh (victim) to his friend Lovejit Singh alias Kang residing in USA and he along with Amritpal demanded the ransom of rs 3 crore from victim son in USA.

He said that case related to this entire incident was registered on Jan 3 at Dhilwan police station under various sections.

Apart from this, during the interrogation, 950 grams of heroin was recovered from Gurikbal Singh and in this regard, case number 7 was registered on February 4 at Dhilwan police station.

He also said that accused Gurikbal Singh along with his two accomplices also called one more NRI family on January 26 and demanded a ransom of 10 lakh rupees and threatened to kill them. .
