Kannada film star Darshan Thoogudeepa was apprehended today in connection with the alleged murder of a man in Bengaluru. Alongside Darshan, his wife, Pavithra Gowda, and 10 others were also taken into custody.
The 47-year-old actor was picked up from his farmhouse in Mysuru and transported back to Bengaluru for interrogation.
The victim, Renuka Swamy (33), was discovered deceased at Sumanahalli Bridge in Bengaluru. Swamy, employed at an Apollo Pharmacy branch in Chitradurga, reportedly sent derogatory messages to Darshan’s wife. Yesterday, three individuals confessed to the murder, claiming they acted upon instructions allegedly given by Darshan.
Despite Swamy’s parents filing a missing complaint, they were advised to wait for 48 hours. However, the murder was reported on June 9, merely a day after he went missing, prompting a case to be registered.
Darshan’s detention stems from a complaint filed by Swamy’s mother, with investigations now delving into whether the actor played a direct role in the murder or was involved in the conspiracy.
Police have heightened security measures at Darshan’s residence in RR Nagar.
Darshan stands as one of the most esteemed figures in the Kannada film fraternity, known for his multifaceted roles as an actor, producer, and distributor. Transitioning from television to cinema, his illustrious career boasts several blockbusters, including ‘Kalasipalya’, ‘Saarathi’, ‘Yajamana’, and ‘Roberrt’. His latest cinematic venture, ‘Kaatera’, graced the screens in 2023.
