Jalandhar DC ask officials to set up five new Anganwadi Centres in each block

To further extend the benefits of anganwadi centers in the district, Deputy Commissioner Jaspreet Singh today asked the officials to set up five new anganwadi centers in each development block.

The funds on the construction of these centers would be spent from MGNREGA scheme, he said while directing the officials of rural development and panchayat department and women and child development department to identify the locations where for new buildings so as to shift existing Anganwadi centers not having their own buildings.

Reviewing the progress of schemes related to the education department, the DC said that as many as 15,81,018 books have been distributed among students of government schools free of cost besides the distribution of uniforms to 1,04,066 students.

He further mentioned that about 921 primary and 418 semi-primary schools have been covered under the phase-I of smart school project while provisions of phase-II of this project were also being implemented in these schools.

The deputy commissioner also said that a total of ten new schools including seven related to commerce stream and three pertaining to science stream are also being developed in the district at an expenditure of Rs.1.60 crore.

Likewise, elaborate arrangements have been made for 746 specially-abled children, of which 235 are getting education facilities at their doorstep through volunteers. He directed the officials of the education department to ensure no one is left without the benefit of education in the district.
