GNDU to celebrate 300th birth anniversary of Sayyed Waris Shah

Guru Nanak Dev University is celebrating the 300th birth anniversary of the great Punjabi poet Sayyed Waris Shah, the writer of Heer on Monday i.e. October 3, 2022 at the Dashmesh Auditorium of the University.

In this event, there will be reciting of Heer Waris Shah Poems and a discussion about Heer Waris from 1pm to 5 pm will be held. Dean Student Welfare Professor, Anish Kumar Dua said that Guru Nanak Dev University is always ready to serve literature and culture with the inspiration of Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.). Jaspal Singh Sandhu due to his initiative this grand event is being organized.

He said that Jatinder Brar, the founder of Punjab Natshala, will be the Chief Guest on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sayyed Waris Shah.

He said that this event is being celebrated with the association of the students of the University’s Music Club and the School of Punjabi Studies.

Padam Shree Surjit Patar, Chairman, Punjab Kala Parishad, Chandigarh and Dr. Lakhwinder Singh Johal, Secretary, Punjab Kala Parishad Chandigarh will be the special guest on this occasion. Eminent scholar of Punjabi Dr. Sumel Singh Sidhu will delivering the keynote address on Syed Waris Shah “Sada-e-Waris: Heer.”

He said that Guru Nanak Dev University on this occasion will also honour Padam Shri Dr. Surjit Patar for his remarkable writings to the Punjabi literary world.

On this occasion, Heer Waris Shah will be sung by teams from different colleges. Prof. Dua said that the singing teams will also be given certificates of participation in this event dedicated to Waris Shah ji’s 300th birth anniversary.

On this occasion, Professor Anish Kumar Dua has extended an open invitation to those who like Sayyed Warish Shah’s Heer to come and be the part of this anniversary event.
