Excise policy 'scam': Delhi court sends BRS leader K Kavitha to CBI custody till April 15
New Delhi, April 12

A Delhi court on Friday sent Bharat Rasthra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha to CBI custody till April 15 in the alleged Delhi excise policy scam.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja passed the order after hearing arguments of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as well as Kavitha’s counsel.

Kavitha, 46, was arrested by the CBI in Tihar jail, where she was lodged after her arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money-laundering case linked to the alleged scam, on Thursday.

The CBI arrested Kavitha under Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) read with Section 477-A (falsification of accounts) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 7 (offence relating to public servant being bribed) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, according to officials.

A massive fire broke out at the protest site of farmers at Shambhu Border on Thursday.

Due to this fire, a few tents of farmers including their belongings burnt. One of their tractors has also burnt. With the efforts of farmers, the fire was controlled.

The farmers are sitting at the Shambhu Border since February and are demanding guarantee on MSP from the Centre.

The office of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Punjab, has achieved the second rank nationwide for active engagement on social media platforms and effective dissemination of crucial information to electors.

Divulging the details, CEO Sibin C said that in the Social Media Index, Punjab clinched the second position, with Maharashtra leading, Karnataka securing third, Uttarakhand fourth, and Uttar Pradesh fifth based on social media performance metrics.

Sibin C highlighted that the social media handles (Facebook, Instagram, X and Youtube) of the CEO office consistently update significant information on Lok Sabha Elections, elector-related details, Political Party guidelines and key directives from the Election Commission of India. Moreover, real-time updates on the status of complaints received via the C-Vigil application are shared on these platforms.

Additionally, the CEO office has initiated a regular podcast to provide essential insights into electoral processes to electors. This podcast endeavors to enhance voter awareness and engagement by delving into key aspects of the electoral process, such as voter registration, polling procedures and the importance of civic participation. Listeners can expect expert analysis and informative discussions to empower them as informed participants in the democratic process.
