Mohali, January 6
The excise department of Punjab recovered 250 kg lahan from a village in Derabassi here on Thursday.
In order to check menace of illicit brewing from lahan, in light of instructions of Varun Roojam, IAS, Excise Commissioner, Punjab and able guidance of Paramjit Singh, Deputy Commissioner (Excise), Patiala Zone, three teams for checking of illicit brewing from lahan were constituted by Dr. Shivani Gupta, Assistant Commissioner (Excise), Ropar Range.
It was joint operation of Mohali Excise and Dera Bassi Police. The operation was led by Ashok Chalotra, Excise Officer, Mohali in which Sandeep Shahi, Excise Inspector, Surjit Singh, Excise Inspector, Kulwinder Singh, Excise Inspector participated along with Excise Police Personnel.
A massive search operation was started at 6:30 am on Thursday i.e 5th January, 2022 by the three teams in the Behra Village, Derabassi and its surrounding areas. Four sniffer dogs were pressed into service by the Excise Department. Shina, Aurus, Tommy and Jolly were four sniffer dogs of intelligent breeds like Belgium Malinois, Labrador & German Shepheard helped the teams to discover the underground pits where Laahan was buried in these drums.
During the search operation, five small drums of 20 Kg and three large drums of 50 Kg each were recovered. Total recovery of 250 kgs of lahan has been made and two Separate FIRs have been lodged at Dera Bassi Police Station District SAS Nagar.
