In a first, Dr. Rajeev Kapila at Deep Hospital, Ludhiana successfully performed a cochlear implant surgery with the latest available technology of slim modiolar electrode (CI632) with a recently launched Nucleus 8 sound processor in the whole of South Asia.
This is a big milestone not only for Dr.Rajeev Kapila and his team but also for the Cochlear Implant industry in India, Nucleus 8 was launched on 4 November 2022 globally.
Sharing his joy, Dr.Kapila shared that he has been doing Cochlear implants for last 16 years and after a lot of efforts his program has reached a stage where latest technology is available in such a short period of time from its global launch. Traditionally more of patients were forced to travel out of Punjab in cities like Delhi or Mumbai to get the most advanced technology and eventually they used to face challenges due to non-availability of mapping and therapy services in interiors which in turn resulted in poor outcomes.
But now, with consistent efforts and focus on quality outcomes, Dr.Kapila has been able to develop a strong team along with Navdeep Kanwer and Simran Kaur from Simran Speech and Hearing Clinic, which has resulted in the best outcomes for every child operated under Dr.Rajeev Kapila’s program. His consistent efforts have led to this milestone surgery today where latest technology is made available to a child in Ludhiana before any other city in the whole of South Asia.
