District Gurdaspur selected as litchi estate under ‘One District One Product’ scheme

District Gurdaspur has been selected as a litchi estate under the ‘One District One Product’ scheme by the Punjab Government and efforts will be made by the Horticulture Department to promote litchi Plantation in District Gurdaspur. Giving this information, Deputy Director of Horticulture Department Mr Tajinder Singh Bajwa said that along with encouraging the farmers of district Gurdaspur to plant litchi gardens, the processing industries related to litchi will also be encouraged so that the farmers can benefit from the produce of litchi. He said that the area of Gurdaspur and Dinanagar is very good for planting litchi orchards and the quality and yield of litchi grown here is very good.

Deputy Director Tajinder Singh Bajwa further said that the Punjab government is giving subsidy of Rs 14000 per acre to farmers cultivating flower seeds and Rs 10000 per acre to gardeners to promote horticulture in the state. He said that the farmer can increase their income by taking out their acreage under the wheat-paddy crop cycle and cultivating flowers, fruits and vegetables.

Bajwa said that the horticulture department is providing farmers with the necessary tools for horticulture, including drone sprayers, hole digging machines for planting new gardens, potato planters, power tillers for planting, tractor-operated spray pumps, etc. on a subsidy basis. . He said that the farmer can contact the office of Horticulture Department for any kind of technical assistance or advice for planting new gardens.
