Deputy Commissioner reviews wheat procurement at Bholath and Begowal Mandis

Under ongoing spree of reviewing wheat procurement, Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal on Wednesday visited Bholath and Begowal grain markets for inspection of crop purchase vis-a-vis interacting with farmers, arthiyas and other stakeholders.

Farmers at both the places expressed immense satisfaction over the arrangements made by the district administration besides apprising Deputy Commissioner that their yield is being procured well within set time frame. They also mentioned that farmers were getting payments against their purchased crop in their bank accounts within stipulated period. Panchal went to different heaps of crop to check the moisture content. He emphasised that the farmers should bring the dry crop to the Mandis so that they could sell their crop within minimal time.

There are 44 permanent mandis, said Panchal adding that the district administration had also setup 33 temporary purchasing centres to facilitate farmers in every nook and corner of the district. He pointed out that elaborate arrangements were ensured in mandis to accomplish the procurement operations in a seamless manner.

So far, of total 1.23 lakh metric tonne arrival of wheat crop, the agencies have procured more than 1.20 lakh MT wheat besides disbursing Rs 226.16 crore in the accounts of the farmers, said Panchal.

The Deputy Commissioner also directed officials concerned to make expedite the lifting of purchased crop for hassle-free arrival of the fresh crop. In view of total expected arrival 3,78,720 metric tonne of total crop in the district, deputy commissioner said that in next few days there would be heavy arrivals in the mandis so all requisite measures must be ensured.
