Chandigarh University’s Bhangra team makes mark at national & international competitions

The Bhangra team of Chandigarh University (CU) has made the university proud by emerging winners at the national and international level competitions in the past three years.

Besides emerging winner in the World Folk Festival organized virtually in Canada in the year 2023, the Chandigarh University secured first position in Punjabi University, Patiala in 2022 and 2023 respectively.

This apart, Chandigarh University secured the 1st Runner-up position in the Ashke Bhangra Cup 2023 at Chappar Chidi , Fatehpur and the 2nd Runner-up position in the 27th Open National Youth Festival held at Nashik , Maharashtra in 2024 .

The team also made its mark in several other competitions, including the Bhangra Gold Cup 2024 at Lyallpur Khasla College, Jalandhar, where they secured the second runner-up position.

Additionally, the Chandigarh University secured first position for two consecutive years at Bhangra Infinity 2024 held at Tagore Theater in Sector 18 , Chandigarh and Flower City Bhangra Cup 2024 in Jalandhar.

The Chandigarh University’s Bhangra team also won a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh in Bhangra Infinity 2024 held at Tagore Theater in Sector 18, Chandigarh and Rs 1,11,111 in the Flower City Bhangra Cup 2024 held in Jalandhar .

Chandigarh University Chancellor and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Satnam Singh Sandhu lauded the achievements of CU’s Bhangra team, saying, “Being a Punjabi , I feel extremely proud when I see Chandigarh University’s Bhangra team being declared the best at national or international level championships.

The continued success of our Bhangra team is a testament to their hard work and dedication to the art. Therefore, I also thank our Department of Cultural Affairs, which prepares the students for these championships and is making a commendable contribution in promoting Punjabi culture at the national and international level,”.

“Being a higher institution of education, it is our duty to connect the youth with their culture and sports apart from studies and Chandigarh University is fulfilling this duty very well. Just as CU students are making records in education and placement, they are also making records in sports and cultural competitions. Our Art and Cultural Affairs Department will continue to play an important role in identifying the talent of students and honing their skills in the future also,” he added.

The members of Chandigarh University’s Bhangra team include Sharanjit Singh , Rahul Singh , Gaurav Chaudhary , Ishpreet Singh , Gautam Tandon , Gurjeet Singh , Vishal Bhatia and Jugaad Singh who are studying in various disciplines in the university. Each member has contributed significantly to the success of the team with his or her unique skills and talents.

The Bhangra team of Chandigarh University has won many competitions at both national and international levels and earned accolades and respect.
