Ludhiana, April 23

In a bid to increase the voter turnout in the areas witnessing low voter turnout in the past elections, the district administration has directed the booth level officers (BLO), supervisors etc to move door to door for encouraging the residents to exercise their Right to Vote in Lok Sabha-2024 elections.

Assistant Commissioner Krishna Pal Rajpoot conducted a meeting in this regard with BLOs, supervisors and SVEEP Nodal officer on Monday and issued necessary directions to the concerned BLOS, supervisors etc.

The officials stated that there are 15 such polling stations in Ludhiana South, North and West which had witnessed less than 40 percent voter turnout in Lok Sabha-2022 elections and Vidhan Sabha elections held in the year 2022. These included different areas of Sherpur Kalan, Sherpur khurd, Giaspura and areas falling under the polling station of Government School near Jagraon bridge etc.

Apart from conducting regular SVEEP activities to encourage the residents to cast their votes during the lok Sabha-2024 elections, the BLOs and supervisors have been directed to conduct door to door voter awareness drives in these areas to encourage the voters.

Assistant Commissioner Krishna Pal Rajpoot said that working on the directions of District Election Officer (DEO)-cum-Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sakshi Sawhney, the administration has been making all efforts to achieve the target of more than 70 per cent voter turnout during the Lok Sabha elections (Iss Baar, 70 Paar).

A large number of awareness activities are being organised across the district to encourage voters under Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program. The BLOs have also been directed to move door to door for encouraging voters.

DEO Sawhney said that voter registration camps are also being organised across the district to enrol first time voters. The eligible first time voters can use ‘Voter Helpline’ mobile application and National Voter Services Portal (NVSP) for enrolling themselves as voters. The residents can also visit www.nvsp.in to register themselves as voters. Voter registration for Lok Sabha-2024 elections can be done till May 4, 2024.

DEO Sawhney further said that the district administration is committed to hold free, fair and transparent elections in the district and the residents should cast their vote without any fear and without coming under anyone’s influence.
