At 11:00 am, 26.3 per cent voting takes place in the last phase

New Delhi, June 1

Polling for the seventh phase of the 18th Lok Sabha polls started at 7 am today. This marks the conclusion of the voting exercise of electing the 543 representatives for the 18th Lok Sabha. This is the largest polling exercise anywhere in the world.

Till 11:00 am 26.3 per cent voting took place in all, the highest happened in Himachal Pradesh 31.92 per cent uptil 11:00 am.

As many as 57 Lok Sabha segments across eight states and Union Territories will decide the fate of more than 900 candidates.

Simultaneously, polling for 42 state assembly segments of the Odisha Legislative Assembly is also taking place today.

The states and UTs where polling is taking place today are Bihar (8/40 seats), Himachal Pradesh (4/4), Jharkhand (3/14), Odisha (6/21), Punjab (13/13), Uttar Pradesh (13/80), West Bengal (9/42) and the Chandigarh Union territory.

The world’s greatest polling marathon, which started on April 19 and has already covered 90 per cent of the LS segments in earlier phases. The results are expected to come on June4.

Approximately 10.9 lakh poll workers will see more than 10.06 crore voters at roughly 1.09 lakh polling places.

The Lok Sabha seats in Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, and Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, are the centre of attention. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is running against Congressman Ajay Rai from the temple town of Varanasi and Kangana Ranaut is running from Mandi, which is known as the Choti Kashi. On Friday, May 30, the seventh phase of the Lok Sabha polls campaign came to a close.
