SGPC President Dr. Harjinder Singh Dhami said that it is an anti-Sikh act to exclude a Sikh player from a skating competition in Patdar for not wearing a helmet.
He was reacting to the news report where a Sikh player was removed from the competition for not wearing a helmet.
“Such a move, which hurts sentiments in the Sikh-majority state of Punjab, is a direct challenge to the Sikh identity. Wearing a helmet has no place in Sikh etiquette. If a Sikh player wants to participate in a sports competition without a helmet, then there should be no such restriction on him. The Punjab government re-inducted the Sikh players who were excluded from this sports competition and re-run the game. As this action took place in the Sikh-majority state of Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Heyer, officials of the Sports Department and the organizers of the competition should apologize immediately,” he expressed on X.
