Amritsar, August 29
To present the perspective of minorities and nationalities residing in India before the G-20, the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) and the Dal Khalsa have decided to convene a Conclave under the nomenclature of M&N-20 on 7th September at Constitution Club of India, New Delhi coinciding with G-20 summit where heads and foreign dignitaries of 19 countries and the EU are arriving to attend it.
The event is a continuation of the Punjab-20 (P-20) summit organised by the Dal Khalsa on March 19 this year that coincided with the G20 summit held under India’s presidency in Amritsar.
Addressing a joint press conference here today, Akali Dal Amritsar leader and Member Parliament Simranjit Singh Mann and Dal Khalsa leader Kanwar Pal Singh said at the time when 20 countries of the world will be meeting in the Indian capital New Delhi on Sep 9-10, it is natural that 20 minorities and nationalities should also convene to take stock of the religious, social, economic and political climate of the sub-continent from a context which the G20 countries are likely to either ignore or put aside.
It’s pertinent to mention that at Mann ki baat, PM had said the G-20 summit in New Delhi will be the biggest event that heads of countries and international organisations are set to attend.
Marking the culmination of its G-20 presidency, when India under Narendra Modi will be presenting its so-called achievements and potentials, we, the oppressed people have our side of the story to tell the world community including the visiting US president Joe Biden and India has a lot to answer too, said Mann.
Kanwar Pal Singh added we will tell ours, Muslims will tell theirs, likewise Christians will tell theirs. Similarly, Nagas, Kashmiris, Tamils, Manipuris and tribals will put forth their pain and concerns.
The leaders said minorities were reeling under a majoritarian dispensation in India. They said the present term of the Narendra Modi government has been a downhill ride for minorities.
Listing the issues related to Punjab and the Sikhs, the fiery Member parliament from Sangrur said we are witnessing direct and unashamed interference in Sikh religious affairs through blasphemous acts, miscarriage of justice in the release of political prisoners who have surpassed their prison terms, gross misuse of NSA, UAPA, misadventures of the NIA, and police management by proxy from New Delhi and extrajudicial killings in the Sikh diaspora.
Kanwar Pal Singh said the fear psychosis of Muslims, the injustices to Dalits, the total suppression of human rights and mass detentions of Kashmiri activists, the Manipur horror and state-sponsored violence in Manipur and Nuh will figure in the deliberations during the M&N 20 conclave.
Spokesman of Dal Khalsa Paramjit Singh Mand told the media that the views of the event will be forwarded to G20 countries through their embassies in Delhi.
Office bearers of both organizations Upkar Singh Sandhu, Harpal Singh Blair, Gurnam Singh and Paramjit Singh Tanda were also present.
