Administration to make all-out efforts to wipe out child-begging, says DC Ludhiana

Ludhiana, April 17

Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney on Tuesday said that the administration aimed to rescue children from the practice of begging and enroll them in schools, connecting them with mainstream society and contributing to its development.

Presiding over a meeting of the District Child Welfare Council, Sawhney emphasized the need to identify the root causes of this issue at the grassroots level to develop an effective strategy. She urged the administration, District Child Welfare Council and other NGOs to work together to eliminate the problem from the district.

Sawhney also suggested that children rescued from begging should be involved in extra-curricular activities such as sports, music, and painting to develop their creativity and imagination for overall growth.

The Deputy Commissioner also discussed the evening classes for the rescued children, membership of the district council, and student involvement in the council’s activities.

Prominent amongst present on the occasion included ADC (G) Major Amit Sareen, Red Cross Secretary Navneet Joshi, social workers Jeena Saharan, Sukhminder Singh Kairon, Jasmin Pahwa, Nidhi Gupta, Kiranjeet Gill and others.
