Absence from duty: Punjab constable loses loaded revolver in Amritsar

The Fact News Service
Chandigarh, April 27

A Punjab Police constable, who was on deputation in Chandigarh, has come under the scanner after losing his loaded service revolver in Amritsar during an unplanned leave of absence recently.

The constable is posted in the security wing of Chandigarh Police.

The incident, which brought back memories of a recent incident of fratricide in which four Army jawans were killed in Bathinda military station, has put UT Police on alert, with officers stating that the Punjab Police constable’s version of how he lost his gun being taken with a pinch of salt by the top brass at the moment.

As per details, the constable had produced a copy of an FIR registered in Amritsar before senior officers while claiming that his revolver had been stolen in Amritsar.

Senior Chandigarh Police officers, however, stated that the FIR produced by the constable has not been accepted and they had instead recommended strict departmental action against him to the Punjab police. SSP (Security/traffic), Manisha Chaudhary, has also recommended the repatriation of the constable from Chandigarh police to Punjab police.
