98.10% paddy procured, Rs.750 cr payments released to farmers in Ferozepur

Against the procurement of 5,68,146 MTs paddy by various procuring agencies, 3,23,533 MTs have been lifted from the mandis besides release of payment of Rs.750 cr in the farmers’ account, said Amrit Singh Deputy Commissioner while revealing the paddy procurement process going on in the district uninterruptedly.

DC said that the work of procurement, lifting and payment of paddy is going on continuously in the procurement centers of the district and strict orders have been given to the officials of the procurement agencies that the farmers should not face any problem in marketing of their crops.

She said that so far 98.10 percent of the crop in the markets has been purchased and while an amount of Rs.750.30 crore has been transferred to the farmers’ accounts. She said that so far 5,791,30 MTs of paddy has arrived in the markets of the district, out of which 5,68,146 MTs has been purchased through various procurement agencies against which 323,533 metric tons of paddy has been lifted.

DC further said, 2,01,782 MTs of paddy was purchased by Pangrain till yesterday evening. Similarly, 161,217 MTs by Markfed, 1,19,901 MTs by Punsup, 83,969 MTs by Warehouse and 1,277 MTs was purchased by private traders.

She however, appealed to the farmers to bring dry paddy to the markets so that there is no problem in selling paddy. She also urged the farmers not to set fire to the paddy stubble and use the machinery provided by the Punjab government to dispose of the residue in the field to contribute to keep the environment clean.
