During the last two days search operation in the Central jail barracks, 8 mobile phones, battery and charger were found from the jail inmates and lying unclaimed, perhaps thrown by the inmates after its use.
As per the information, mobiles, battery and charger were found from two under trial prisoners – Kala Singh and Gurpreet Singh, and three mobiles and battery lying as unclaimed during the search operation by Kulwant Singh, Assistant Superintendent. While, two mobiles were found lying unclaimed, outside the barracks. On the second day search operation, by Tarsem PLal Sharma, Assistant Superintendent, two mobiles were seized from Ramesh alias Harmesh and one mobile was found from outside the barrack from the heap of wood, as unclaimed with battery and SIM card.
Recovery of mobile phones from the jail has become a regular feature despite tight security at the entry points. It has been observed that mobile is most wanted banned items inside the jail to stay connected with the outer world for legal or illegal activities. But the purpose of keeping the prisoners as punishment is lost.
