The recovery of mobiles and other banned items from the jail premises has become a regular feature and put a question mark on the security arrangements at the entry points. Recently, during the search operation, seven mobiles were recovered which speaks of staying connected with the outer world of prisoner, hard-core criminals in the high-security zones even.
The Jail Department has been regularly recovering mobile phones from inmates. Despite the tight security, inmates still manage to get phones inside the jail. Sources said, the jail authorities have also started an internal probe to inquire the role of jail staff in letting the phones in, if any. Jail campus now covered with the high rising residential buildings and open area is leading to easy throw of packets, without any check.
As per the details, the raids were conducted in the barracks by Sukhjinder Singh and Nirmal Singh, Assistant Superintendents. The mobiles were seized from prisoners Jagdip Singh, Sudagar Singh, Sumit, Ramandeep Singh, Manjit Singh, Jaswinder Singh, and Sagar. All the seven prisoners already in the jail facing trial in different cases have been booked under Section 52-A, Prisons Act.
